wednesday night funny.
Her: Mommy, Mommy... I won the spelling bee in school today!
Me: Did you?! Yay ... I'm proud of you boobie =]
Her: Yep, I did. So Mommy, since I won the spelling bee, can I get a Hannah Montana tattoo with a guitar and words around the guitar that says Hannah Montana Rocks??? Please Mommy?
Me: :-0
She's 5. Kids say the craziest things.
That's all folks.
P.S. - Interview went well. He is super, super cool. One of my best "newbie" interviews to date, not better than Hurricane Chris though. That boy was a complete fool, but I love it when they are laid back, funny and humble. Check him out on MySpace.
laws of attraction.
Your words or way of thinking can either work for you or against you. Words have a creative power, believe it or not. Listen to what you’re saying about yourself or your situation today, it'll determine a lot about you and what you think of yourself.
Brook had an entry on her blog relating to this topic a couple weeks ago. I agree with her perspective too. Yeah, I'm a realist when I need to be and yeah the universe talk sounds a bit crazy, especially when you're in the situation she was in (trying to get her car window fixed -- so clearly "meditating and channeling stars" would not have fixed her window, lol) but when it comes to other situations and life as a whole... the laws of attraction have lots of truth to them. You keep talking negative shit, then negative shit will continue to occur. Your thoughts dictate your life.
Think positive. Act as if you already have what it is you desire. Open your mind. I'm sure many of you have read The Secret. It's not even about that though, it's beyond that.
Ok, my metaphysics moment has concluded. Anywho, later this evening, I have an interview with this new R&B artist on Universal for this online music publication my friend runs. No, this is not "the" interview that I am excited about, that one hasn't happened yet. But this one is cool too. As long as I get to meet new people, talk to them, talk to their people (i.e. PR reps, managers, etc), and transcribe, I'm happy. Writing makes me happy. I'm not as prepared as I should be though. I have most of my questions ready, but my tape recorder went missing, and I haven't even listened to this dudes new single yet... smh. I did read his bio though, so I know enough to get me by. I'll shape up by the time I meet with him.
I'll post or link the article when it's published.

beauty.
I think Dorothy Dandridge definitely paved the way for a lot of African American actresses, especially considering she was the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award.
One of her quotes caught my eye.
"If I were white, I could capture the world."
I can only imagine how hard it was back then ... 'cuz it's still kinda hard today.

dreams.
- A series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.
- A daydream; a reverie.
- A state of abstraction; a trance.
- A wild fancy or hope.
- A condition or achievement that is longed for; an aspiration.
- One that is exceptionally gratifying, excellent, or beautiful.
Everyone has had dreams so abnormal, complex or scary that you didn't know what to make of it. What did you do when that happened? Many people call a family member or friend for their opinion or explanation, while others go to the Dream Moods Dictionary.
What's the craziest [whatever you may deem crazy or out of the norm] dream you've ever had and what did you do after waking up realizing that it wasn't real?
More importantly, do you believe in your dreams?
Obviously, a dream I had this morning prompted this post.

pompous celebrations.
Is it me or have children's activities become more and more grandiose as time goes by?
My 5 year old daughter was just invited to a 3-day sleepover ... ready for the venue?
The Marriott. Yeah. That's what I said. No boys allowed and parents are definitely welcomed if they so please. If not, then they have a 3 day break away from their brat.
Her best friend Aniyah [pictured above with her] is turning 6 in a few weeks and that's what's going down.
Funny thing is... I might be just as excited as the birthday girl...lmao.

get it.
Are we on the come up, or what? My girl Taraji P. Henson just received an Oscar nod for her performance in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. She’s up for Best Supporting Actress…must not be hard for a pimp anymore! Haha. Can’t wait to see what /who she wears =)
advice from bush twins.
- Surround yourself with loyal friends. They'll protect and calm you and join in on some of the fun, and appreciate the history.
- If you're traveling with your parents over Halloween, don't let it stop you from doing what you would normally do. Dress up in some imaginative, elaborate costume (if you are like us a pack of Juicy Fruit and a Vampiress) and trick-or-treat down the plane aisle.
- If you ever need a hug, go find Ramsey. If you want to talk football, look for Buddy. And, if you just need a smile, look for "Smiley."
- Slide down the banister of the solarium, go to T-ball games, have swimming parties, and play Sardines on the White House lawn. Have fun and enjoy your childhood in such a magical place to live and play.
- Four years goes by so fast, so absorb it all, enjoy it all!

say what?
Apparently, there was a settlement from some class action lawsuit filed against cosmetic companies (for price fixing) that starting today, they’re being forced to shell out $175 million dollars in FREE MAKEUP! That’s right, FREE 99; that’s according to News Channel 4. Where do you go to get yours? So glad you asked. Go to any: Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nieman Marcus, Target and Dillards. Some of the brands included are Christian Dior, Givenchy, Chanel, Estee Lauder, Clinique and more! It’s first come; first serve ladies so jump on it!

This will be my only post for the day because honestly, nothing else is as important as this right about now. Later today, afterwork I will be watching [again] and celebrating a Dream Fulfilled at Ultra with some of my favorite people.
This is soooo exciting ... see you guys later.

one more chance?
I have a thing with getting into unnecessary arguments. Sometimes they can be avoided, sometimes you just have to let the person know what time it is and keep it moving. What always seems to have me at a standstill is the apology. Most rational people will apologize after their evil doing. Others choose to half-ass their way out of the doghouse like “you know I’m sorry” Do I? This is the rule of thumb I’ve decided to live by: if ya don’t mean it, don’t say it! When you utter the words ‘I’m sorry’, you’re admitting fault. You’re also saying that you will try not to repeat it like your new favorite song (my current is Blame It On The Alcohol) because what happens when you hear it too much? It gets PLAYED OUT. Now somewhere in our upbringing, we were told it is polite to accept an apology, even if you don’t believe the person. Thank God I’m not like Peter Pan and I grew that a** up! No fairy dust needed, I say just politely decline. What good is it if it’s mumbled or followed by a “but”?

puh-lease.
I’m a pretty social person. I can confabulate or formally converse, whatever the occasion calls for. I insert jokes accordingly, listen to the other person, provide feedback where necessary, etc. If someone says “good afternoon” to me, I'll reciprocate. I’m not going to walk around all stiff with my arms folded and head down just because I’m in a relationship or not interested in that person. It seems, however, like that’s what some people may be used to. Because, if you’re nice to them, they take it as more than that.
I totally digg having boundaries. I have them, and expect that to be reciprocated in my relationship - because outside forces will disrespect your relationship if you allow it. But, how do you maintain ‘normal’ interactions with people of the opposite sex without them jumping the gun and thinking it's more than you just being cordial?

omg.
I don't typically talk celeb ish but omg... I just read on YBF that Kelis' pregnancy has been confirmed!
Anyone that really knows me, knows that I am a major fan of Kelis. Like I could've posted a blog asking my people to name theeee one person I absolutely love and their responses would be Kelis.
I don't care that she sells more albums in the UK than the US. I love her. Point blank. Her style, her attitude, her music, her weirdness. I love it all. When I created this blog in 2007, there were so many Kelis posts... I was told to calm down. And I have, haven't I?
P. S. - I'm 24 and I am not ashamed to admit that I'm a member on Ultimate Kelis.
true.
lelo loves P I E C E S.
On Sunday, I did a post titled New Toy on the Block: Lelo and received a comment from Ana C of Lelo thanking me for the post and letting me know that she is posting it on the Lelo website under the reviews section with a link back to my page.
So I went on the site and checked for it and there it is... [see above screen shot - 1st blog on the upper left corner]..
too cool..
thanks Ana =)

brooklyn we go hard.
workout partner.
I can't remember the last time I been to a gym or worked out regularly ... actually it was sophomore or junior year in John Jay (remember Dreegz?). I had my daughter in my freshman year of college so I started working out afterwards. Didn't really need to since I lost the baby weight right away, but the "idea" sounded cool so I was down. So yeah, it's been a few years. Now everyone who knows me knows my weight doesn't fluctuate by much at all. I'm typically slim ... excluding my derriere of course.
However, I'm feeling the need to start working out again. I want to go to the gym, do Pilate's, kick boxing - something! Adina and I were supposed to do Pilate's last year... that plan fell through. I'll be 25 in March and the older you get, the slower your metabolism is, then the harder it is for you to lose weight. I already started eating healthier, thanks to him, so now I just have to conquer this workout thing.
Only thing is ... I'm in dire need of a partner. It's much easier and motivating when you have someone to do this stuff with.
-scanning my phonebook-

- I've been asked to interview someone for this music publication my friend owns ... I can't disclose who yet, but I'm a little excited about it. As soon as that issue goes to print, I'll post a little bit of the interview on P I E C E S.
- I've also been given a new project... Well I was given this project already, but there was a hold up, as with most things. Anyhow, I'll shortly be editing a children's book.....oooow...
- I've been mentally preparing for this position at my company I'm trying to get...mental preparation is a must.
- New layout on RTRW coming this week...hopefully.
- I'm a little disappointed that I missed this magazine publishing networking event at FIT yesterday, but my daughter got sick and needed me. Danyel Smith (EIC of VIBE) was in attendance and I really needed to speak to her, lol. I met her at a previous magazine event and she was really cool and open to ideas. Only problem is, I didn't have a pitch back then, not to mention, I was new to the industry. I had my mind set yesterday though. There's always another time. I need to cheer up. Maybe I'll go use my JCrew and Bath & Body gift cards today during lunch. Too bad there's no Ikea over here...lol... it's a woman thing.
- On the flip side, I'm super excited that in 7 days we will begin to witness what will probably be 8 years (hopefully) of great Presidency. I wonder which Inauguration dress design Michelle Obama decided to go with... Can't wait to see.

new toy on the block: lelo.
Lelo toys come in a pretty black storage box along with a charger, a satin pouch for traveling, warranty information (yes warranty - a year to be exact), and an instruction manual. Not many toys come with an instruction manual, trust me, and if they do there’s usually not more than a page of pretty basic instructions. Manuals that come with Lelo's do not only include basic information about the pleasure object but also troubleshooting information and specifications.
Lelo has all a variety of toys all with different names - Nea, Gigi, Mia, Ella, Lili, Liv, Iris & Elise. They also have a line of beads. This is just the females stuff. And just like most products, they also have an homme and a luxe line in which toys come in steel or gold plates.

But guess what? Our systems have been down since this morning ... =/
I'm usually ok with this, but today I'm a bit annoyed. Hopefully the server comes back up soon enough.
I never mind going in to work on Fridays, I feel like it's the only day of the week that flies by... and Wednesdays, those fly by for me too. Don't ask 'cuz idk...
With systems being down and nothing much I can do about it, I'm sitting here surfing the web, planning out my weekend, listening to Corinne, drinking POM Juice and blogging... hence this post.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

bohemian decor: love or loathe?
I'm not 100% with this one. I don't like the sofa, but I admire the loveseat. Blue/white curtain & lamp - not for me. I'm diggin' that coffee table though. That's a peice you don't come across too often.
s.p.a.: sanitas per aquam..
How about a facial so euphoric, it could bring you to orgasmic sounds leaving you to forget that it is not your man (or woman) rubbing on your face, but simply a masseuse?
What about a toe curling pedicure?
-sigh-
I need to go back to D'mai Urban Spa in Park Slope, Brooklyn. It's the best spa I've been to. I've become a regular there. Not to mention, it's a hop, skip and a jump away from my apartment.

Now I am making it my business to finish everything I start. I've decided to aggressively pursue my writing career. i'm appalled.
Last night was a serious reminder of why I can't stand to party in my favorite borough. The
I went because my older brother Jose [pictured above with me] was having a party there, as he does every Friday, and I've been dodging him everytime but last night he was like "Please Sis, just come through for a little bit". I mean it was only a 15 minute car ride, so I was like fuck it. Man, when I seen the gray sweats and tims, I had to look up and see who was wearing it. But then I thought about it, realized I was in the hood, took the almost wanting to regurgitate look off my face, then looked up and smiled casually at what looked to be someone's mother.
I felt like an outcast. Like one of those 'pick out the odd one' elementary school assignments. From the moment I walked in till the moment I walked out, people were staring at me [guess they were never taught that staring is rude].
Never again. Jose, if you're reading this - please don't feel a way, just hurry and move your events to the city. I'm happy I got a chance to hang out with my brother, but the only way you'll have me back up in that bitch again is if I decided to take you up on your offer to work the door and make some quick cash.
Love You Zae!

"I can't color enough, I would color all day every day If I had my way, I would use every crayon in my box"
I'm gonna shower, put on something sexy, pour myself a glass of Grand Marnier, crawl up in the bed and watch SATC... oh yeah!
Speaking of which, I remember the premiere night. May 30th, 2008. My girls and I got real sexy. I wore this dope BCBG dress - yes to the movie theatre. It was the premiere night of Sex and the City... I had to look my best! Anyway, we got there, had great seats, laughs, tears, anger and all - this movie evoked almost every emotion outta me. I know people who saw it can relate. After that, we hit up this bangin' Showcase & Empire Ent party at Spotlight in Times Square.
Good good times.
Anyone else have some memorable SATC Premiere Night stories? Do tell!
